I trust that
you all had a good Thanksgiving weekend.
I was able to gather with my family for Thanksgiving dinner back in
Brooklin, Ontario. This thanksgiving was particularly special for me as it was
the first time since last Christmas that I was able to attend a family
gathering around the table. For this, and many other blessings, I am truly
grateful. Speaking of Thanksgiving, many thanks to all those who were able to
donate to our parish food drive last weekend. Your contributions mean so much
to our recipients!
I want to
congratulate our Altar Servers who received the Serra Club Altar Server Awards
this weekend at Our Lady of the Airways Parish in Mississauga. Bishop
Boissonneau, our Regional Bishop, presented awards to our servers and others
from 72 parishes in the Western Region of Toronto. The award is given every
year to 5 servers who demonstrate dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm for
their ministry. This year’s recipients are, Noah Landman, Bethany Mete,
Benjamin Chinnery, Brett Currie and Owen Currie. My thanks and congrats go out
to all of these young people and their parents for their dedication and
generosity to their ministry and to our parish.
All of our servers play a very valuable and important role in our
liturgies. It is both a pleasure and a privilege to have you all here at St.
Dominic Parish. You probably notice that
we have some very young servers here at the parish. No matter how young they
might be, when they demonstrate a desire and ask to become an Altar Server,
there is a spark and a willingness to put their faith into action. That spark
must never go unnoticed or be taken lightly.
I would encourage other boys and girls to think about joining the team
too!
The insert in
today’s bulletin lists all of our bakers and helpers at the bake sale 3 weeks
ago. Many thanks for your help. Please let me know if I have missed any of your
names.
The
Archdiocesan Insurance Company, Catholic Mutual, has approved the bid,
($92.000), provided by The Premier Restoration Company to renovate and repair
all the rooms damaged by the flood last August. The work has already begun and
will take approximately two months.
The month of
November, the month of the Holy Souls, is quickly approaching and so the Book
of Remembrance will be available next weekend. Please write down the names of
those deceased family and friends you wish to be remembered in all the Masses
in November. The Masses on November 1st, All Saints and November 2nd,
All Souls are for everyone and so private intentions may not be taken on these
2 days. Most of the other days in November are still available for Mass
intentions.
