I have to congratulate
all those parishioners who helped make our bake sale so successful last
weekend. Several of my own personal
friends as well as family baked and helped out too! Congratulations are in
order for all of you! The amount of baking that came in totally exceeded my
expectations. Many workers including several students from St. Paul Catholic
Secondary School came on board all weekend to make sure things went smoothly.
Thanks too, to all of you who were able to come and support this St. Dominic
parish fund-raiser. We also had a total
of 29 raffle prizes donated by parishioners for which I am also very grateful.
We realized $2800.00 profit from the day. As you already know, it is not just
about the money for me, but about the chance to socialize with parishioners,
their families, their friends and people from the wider community. I know that
a good time was had by all. Before I talk about Thanksgiving Weekend, please
remember that our Knights of Columbus are hosting OKTOBERFEST again this year
on October 19 in the parish hall. Tickets are available in the vestibule all
this weekend or at the parish office during the week. This is another
opportunity to come out to a dinner-dance and support the Knights and have a
great evening with parishioners, friends and family. The SERRA CLUB altar
server awards are also next weekend at Our Lady of the Airways Church on
October 19th at 10 am. I will say more about that next weekend. Now
to the business of Thanksgiving Weekend.
The following is a Thanksgiving Prayer by Harry
Jewell. It is a good prayer for all of us to pray.
We Give Thanks
Our Father in Heaven, We give thanks for the pleasure
Of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food prepared by loving hands.
We give thanks for life, the freedom to enjoy it all
And all other blessings. As we partake of this food,
We pray for health and strength
To carry on and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ, our Heavenly Father. AMEN.
