25th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY) September 20,
2020
In today’s Gospel Jesus gives USA marvelous insight into the wisdom of reversal which is at the heart of the kingdom. A landowner goes to the market place early in the day and hires people to work in his vineyard and some he hires much later in the day. When the time came to make the payment the real fun starts: the first and the last arrivals receive the equal wage. The landowner’s generosity to the latecomers aggrieves the early starters, even though they were paid the agreed sum. So the landowner confronts them with the question: “Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why be envious because I’m generous?” The parable is originally referred to the Pharisees’ complaint at Jesus’ generous treatment of sinners, the latecomers, with the same mercy as he has for those who have borne the burden of the law. In Luke’s Gospel the Pharisees’ complaint is met with the parable of the prodigal son, in which the elder brother complains that he has not been treated according to his deserts. In both parables we are invited to consider the generosity of God, a generosity that makes other people furious. Do we allow God the freedom to do things his way, or do we get furious when he diverts from our way of operating. We may think it only our right to sing “ I did it my way “, but what happens when we hear the Lord singing it? If we resent his freedom to show mercy to whom he pleases, not only do we repeat the grumble of the labourers in the parable, but we forget how we ourselves benefit from his mercy. Let’s open ourselves to receive his mercy and become vehicle’s of bringing mercy in the lives of others!

POPE FRANCIS’S PRAYER TO MARY :
(For protection from the Coronavirus)
O Mary, you shine continuously in our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the sick. At the foot of the cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to confirm ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us , through the cross, to the joy of the Ressurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas-we who are put to the test-and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and Blessed Virgin.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION :
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society has continued to serve our neighbours in need during the lockdown. We continued to respond to phone calls for help and mailed out vouchers for the grocery store each month. Our expenditures totalled about $1300 each month. We served about 30 single or family groupings per month. In order to practice social distancing and keep everyone safe, we stopped our home visits.
Just before Thanksgiving on Oct. 2 and 3 we will distribute the food from our pantry in a safe manner. We will be giving out bags of groceries from our pantry to our neighbours in need on Friday an Saturday morning on Oct. 2 and 3. People will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing. We will use contactless delivery to keep everyone safe.
If you would like to make a donation to the St. Dominic’s St. Vincent de Paul Society to help us with our work, you may drop it in the collection basket on Sunday or go online to https://www.imakeanonlinedonation.org/ssvp-national/DONATION/
You are able to select the conference where you wish to donation. Ours is St. Dominic Mississauga. Thank you for your support.
