There’s
a popular saying to err is human, while to forgive is divine. Nursing anger or
cherishing resentment is dangerous for our health, indeed fatal: it disables us
and renders us defenceless when we look for our own sins to be forgiven. In
today’s Gospel Mathew continues to deal with relations between Christians,
focussing in the need for forgiveness between members of the community. Peter
asks Jesus how often he should forgive his brother, then answers his own
question by suggesting seven times. The Jewish tradition taught that God
forgives three times and punished on the fourth occasion; it was not believed
that injured people could be more gracious than God, so forgiveness was limited
to three times. According to that tradition Peter’s measure is generous; but
according to Jesus it is radically insufficient. Just as in the old days there
was no limit to hatred and vengeance, so among Christians there is to be no
limit to mercy and forgiveness. The parable of the unforgiving official is told
in order to understand the need of forgiveness. The unforgiving official is
condemned for loss of memory. He was shown mercy but in return he fails to
display that same gesture of mercy towards his neighbor. Forgetfulness of our
own sins leads to lack of compassion; remembering how our sins have gone
unpunished by God should lead us to forgive others. Through forgetfulness of
God’s compassion, we can end up. becoming cruel to each other. That is why at
the beginning of each Eucharist we are invited to be mindful of our own sins.
Only when we do that can we pray the “Our Father “: forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Let’s ask for the grace to treat
others mercifully and let us forgive as God forgives us everyday!.

O
Mary, you shine continuously in our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.
We
entrust ourselves to you, Health of the sick. At the foot of the cross you
participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman
people, know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that as you
did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of
trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to confirm ourselves to the Father’s
will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself,
and bore our sorrows to bring us , through the cross, to the joy of the
Ressurrection. Amen. We seek refuge
under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas-we who
are put to the test-and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and Blessed
Virgin.
At
a time like this I feel uncomfortable to talk about giving. Our primary concern
is health and well being of our parishioners. However, No doubt you are aware
that our Parish relies on the support of our parish members for the upkeep of
the church. Kindly support us with the donations (weekly offerings) thank you
for your great help during this challenging time! God bless you!🙏
At
this time we alsk the faithful to please donate to the Lebanon relief effort,
if you are able. The Archdiocese if Toronto will send donation to the Catholic
Near East Welfare Association ( CNEWA) a papal agency with extensive as
the-ground networks in Lebanon. CNEWA staff are currently working to send food,
water, medical supplies and hygiene products to Beirut. Spiritual and
psychological support will also be provided to those who lost everything in a
blink of an eye. Later, CNEWA will rebuild housing and help re-establish those
who lost their livelihoods in this disaster.
