A note about Winnie Crowe’s funeral last Monday: I would like to thank all the priests who attended and concelebrated: Fr. Rudy Volk, Fr. Noel Whelan, Fr. Claude Richard and Fr. Tim Hanley. It was a great tribute to Winnie that 5 priests were in attendance. Winnie was very much loved in our community at St. Dominic and in the wider community of Mississauga and that was very evident given the numbers of people in the congregation. Many thanks to Mark Linsao, Erica and Megan Micelli and Sean Bator for their wonderful music throughout the funeral Mass. Thank-you to the readers, Nancy Pitoscia, Monica Parlette and Bobby Crowe. Many thanks to our funeral ministers, George Pereira, Christine Kot and Tina and Patrick Albuquerque. The reception downstairs was so well organized and I thank the Enright family and many of our own ladies from St. Dominic Parish for their hard work preparing for such a large number of people. Special thanks to John Kostoff, the Director of Education for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board, for attending. Winnie was a wonderful teacher at the board for many years and I heard many stories over the last few days of just how special a teacher she was. It was very fitting to have John and many representatives from the board in attendance.  Winnie would have been proud of the way everyone came together to make her funeral such a wonderful celebration. She will be very much missed by all of us. Many thanks to all of you!

In some ways, this is a sad weekend for us here at St. Dominic. Fr. Noel will be leaving us on Thursday, July 3, to begin his new assignment at St. Anselm Parish and Edith Stein Mission. I would like to thank Fr. Noel for everything that he has done, not only for all of you, but for me, as well. I know that he will be very much missed both in the church, in our schools and in the rectory. We wish Fr. Noel every blessing in his new assignment.  After Father’s departure, I will need to depend on your help and the help of visiting priests on the weekends, since I will be alone in the parish from then onward.

Congratulation to all of our students in the parish who have graduated this week from Queen of Heaven, St. Dominic, St. Paul and St. Edmond Catholic Schools. We at the parish wish you much success and many blessings as you move on to places of higher learning. Remember to take the Christian values you have learned at your schools with you. I invite our graduates to consider joining a committee, youth group or ministry here in the parish. Your presence at the liturgy, whether in the pew or in special ministry, is very much valued and the active presence of our young people is a sign of hope, not only for us in the parish, but for the Church, as a whole. No matter what age we happen to be, we all have a part to play as members of the Body of Christ, the Church. We all wish you a wonderful and safe summer vacation and much success in the future.

Special thanks to Wayne and Pat Anderson for their donation of tickets for the Waterfront Festival. Our families, who are visited by the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Dominic  Council, were able to take in the festival and enjoyed a wonderful weekend. Thanks again, Wayne and Pat!

On Saturday October 4, 2014 from 9am – 3pm, are holding a parish harvest bazaar as we begin to offset the parish debt. We are looking for new or gently used items for a Grandma’s Attic table. Please drop items off at the office. We will also need you to come on board to help bake beforehand and help on the day. The only way this can be successful is with your help and efforts. If you can help, please leave your name with the secretary and I will contact you for a meeting during the summer. In addition, all the chairs, coordinators of committees and ministries will be contacted by me over the summer months to firm up our plan of action. Thank-you in advance for your cooperation.

Finally, this is our last bulletin until September. I hope you all have a great summer and I thank you for your ongoing encouragement and support.

Fr. Phil
