From the Desk of Fr. Phil

Congratulations to all t hose who were confirmed last weekend. I am so sorry that I missed this celebration but I know that everything went very well. Many thanks to Melinda Mayo and her team for their volunteer efforts and dedication to St. Dominic Parish.

Jesus makes a claim which only God can make – he knows all things – the present and the past, as well as the future. Jesus not only claims to speak the truth, he calls himself the very source of truth when he proclaims that he is the way, the truth and the life. Now Jesus promises to send his disciples the Spirit of truth who will guide them in understanding all that Jesus came to say and do! Jesus tells his disciples that it is the role of the Holy Spirit to reveal what is true. It is through the gift and working of the Holy Spirit, who enlightens our hearts and minds, that we come to understand that God is a trinity of persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

How can we personally know the Father and his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ? It is the Holy Spirit who reveals the Father and the Son to us and who gives us the gift of faith to know and understand the truth of God’s word. Through the Holy Spirit, we proclaim our ancient faith in the saving death and resurrection of Jesus Christ until he comes again. The Lord gives us his Holy Spirit as our divine Teacher and Helper that we may grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God.

A word about my journey:

Today is May 21st and I am still in Trillium. The ‘day surgery’ scheduled for May 6th did not go well and I was admitted that day and am still here. After the May 6th surgery failed I told you last Sunday of the required by-pass. The proposed by-pass to clear the arteries in my left leg was averted at the last minute in favour of a less invasive procedure.  This latest procedure was required to be done twice but it worked the second time and my left leg is now pink again, has a great pulse and blood flowing the way it should, as opposed to purple and blue!!  This was followed by 4 days in the intensive care unit. I am now back on the medical floor awaiting a new vacuum to be installed in my right leg to drain it of the infection that set in.  I was told today that I would probably be here until this coming Wednesday or Thursday. I certainly hope that I will be recovered soon and be back with you. On a real positive note, I am amazed every day here at Trillium with the caring, compassionate and brilliant people who show such concern and love to so many on a daily basis.  We need to thank God for every one of them!!

I sincerely hope that you are all well and enjoying better weather these days!
