Many thanks to the Knights of Columbus for hosting our Pancake Weekend
last weekend. Again, I had to miss this event but I heard that it was extremely
successful. I am happy to hear that so many of you supported the Knights and
enjoyed your meal too! I would like to
thank all the St. Paul students for all their help, both at the Pasta Dinner
and last weekend at the pancake breakfast. Please remember that the Youth Group
Coffee House/Knights of Columbus Book Sale is this weekend after all Masses on
Saturday and Sunday. Congratulations to our Confirmation Class of 2013 who
received their crosses last weekend.
ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS THANK-YOU As I continue to have more tests at Trillium and await surgery, I
thought I would write a thank-you note to Rogers Communications for their time
and generosity to our parish in installing a state of the art security system
in the church and the rectory during the last couple of weeks. Having a
security system in place, is in keeping with the Archdiocesan guidelines but it
also means that our monthly insurance premiums are reduced. This was a pilot project for Rogers, in terms
of installing security in a church building. Several challenges were evident
such as the sheer size of each building and the fact that they had to come up
with a way of sending wireless signals through the thick concrete walls. After
meeting with several technicians and the Vice-President of Operations, who
oversaw the entire project, all of the challenges were met. While I was
investigating the possibility of installing a good security system, we received
three estimates, the highest of which was over $3500.00 plus a $100.00 monthly
fee. I felt that this was excessive so I approached Rogers to investigate what
they could and would do for us. The end result was that the entire project of 4
days labor, several executives and workers mapping out the project, all
components, parts and accessories came to a total of $932.20, with a monthly
fee for monitoring, of $31.00. Over $2000.00 of materials, time and extras were
donated to our parish. I think it is important to thank Rogers but also equally
important to tell you the real facts about this project. The many workers and
trucks around the premises for four days, morning till night, might have given
the appearance of a very expensive undertaking.
I now feel that our entire complex, church and rectory, are very safe
and that benefits us all in protecting everything that we hold dear, including
ourselves.
Many thanks to our Regional Bishop, Bishop John Boissonneau, for coming
to talk with our Confirmation students last Wednesday in preparation for their
Confirmation in May.
I thank you for your continuing prayers and look forward to being back
with you soon
