SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Reflection   from the desk of Fr. Terry

The Sixth Sunday of Easter comes just before the Lord's Ascension. It makes Jesus' last presence with His disciples. The gospel reading contains Jesus' tender farewell to His disciples. This gospel starts with a very beautiful statement: "if anyone loves me, he will keep my word." This is what we see between a happily married couple. Any decision one makes has the consideration for the word of the other, hence there is unity. There are even happy surprises. For example, the husband, doing dish washing or laundry spontaneously for the sick or tired wife, shows a comforting and assuring sign of affection and the wife feels she is truly loved. Today Jesus assures us that he will dwell within us, and the Holy spirit will teach us and remind us of what he taught. This is good news for us, because it means we are not making the Christian journey alone. We are today like the early Church of Jerusalem, taught and guided by the Spirit. We need only to listen and have faith in his working in us.
