Beatitudes:
Jesus
said, "blessed are you poor and blessed are you who hunger." When we
talk about poverty, about being poor, it does not mean of material poverty. He
certainly does not mean also that wealth and money are intrinsically evil and
that we should work for material advancement in this world. However, there is a
worse form of poverty than material poverty, it is loneliness, emptiness and
being unloved. Jesus is challenging us to build a better world where there is
justice and peace, no killings and exploitation, no cheating and suppression.
Jesus knew what is being poor, being born in a manger, having to flee the
persecution of Herod and at the end being crucified. He has gone through
everything that is being said in these Beatitudes and given us the path that
leads to being blessed.
