Many
thanks to all those who were able to come and celebrate All Saints Day and All
Souls Day. Both celebrations were well
attended.
Our
Halloween party for families was great fun. Thanks to all who helped make the
night a good experience. Special thank to those students from St. Paul who set
up and decorated the hall on Saturday afternoon. Thanks also to the ladies who
prepared the food and the Knights of Columbus who sponsored the event. We saw
some great costumes for sure!
ADVENT
SIGN-UP SHEET TO LIGHT ADVENT WREATH CANDLES: Please take a moment to sign up
to light the advent wreath candles during the Masses in the advent season. The
sign-up sheets are in the vestibule of the church. Please write clearly, your
family name and phone number.
TREE
LIGHTING AND EVENING WITH SANTA: The
evening will begin with 5pm Mass, the first Mass in the season of Advent. The
Advent Candle will be lit on the advent wreath and the crosses will be given to
all our students preparing for First Holy Communion in 2017. We also have a
50th wedding anniversary celebration of parishioners at the 5 pm Mass.
After
Mass we will proceed to the tree on Atwater, bless it and sing carols, among
them, O Christmas Tree. Following the tree lighting we will proceed downstairs
for food, refreshments and pictures with Santa.
We
will have tickets this year in order to have a better knowledge of numbers of
people attending. All tickets, Adult and Children will be $3.00 each and will
be on sale after every Mass beginning this weekend. Tickets at the door on the
night will be $5.00 each. The nominal fee will off-set the cost of food, drinks
and pictures and will give us a more accurate number of attendees. In order to
run a parish party, we really need to know numbers of people attending before
it happens. There is nothing worse than running out of food or over cooking
with too much left over. This has been our experience in previous years. Please
try to buy your tickets ahead of time so that we know how much food to purchase
and prepare. Thank-you for your cooperation.
The
Sadducees in today’s Gospel had one big problem - they could not conceive of
heaven beyond what they could see with their naked eyes! The Sadducees, unlike
the Pharisees, did not believe in immortality, nor in angels or evil spirits.
Their religion was literally grounded in an earthly image of heaven. The Holy
Spirit reveals to us the eternal truths of God's unending love and the life he
desires to share with us for all eternity.
The promise of paradise - heavenly bliss and unending life with an
all-loving God - is beyond human reckoning.
The ultimate proof of the resurrection is the Lord Jesus and his victory
over death when he rose from the tomb.
I
wish you all a good week!Fr. Phil
