After many years of service, over 17, to be
exact, Beverly Carpenter has decided to retire. It is difficult, as you might
imagine, to summarize this many years of service into one brief column in the
Sunday bulletin but I will try to do that as best I can. As the coordinator of
Parish Social Ministry, a volunteer in the Resettlement Committee, the
coordinator of Archdiocesan Volunteer Screening, coordinator of the Ministers
of Care and the Bereavement Committee, Bev has put our parish on
the map in Mississauga and Toronto. She has been a leader in ministry to
the sick, the marginalized, immigrants from other countries, parishioners and
community members needing a helping hand from time to time, those who
benefit from our Caring and Sharing Christmas program and individuals or
families who simply need a listening ear or those who need direction to the
many Social Service Agencies in our city and community. There are probably some
aspects of Bev’s work that I have forgotten to mention but I think you get the
picture. The wheel of Parish Social Ministry includes so many spokes but I hope
that I have mentioned the most important ones. Upon Bev’s retirement, I would
like to thank her for so many years of dedicated service to you, the
parishioners, and to the wider community. I have heard, over and over again,
from both groups how grateful people are for the help/assistance/advice they
have received and that is all due to Bev’s dedication to her ministry over the
years. We will celebrate Bev’s many years of ministry at a retirement party
this weekend, on Sunday from 1pm – 4 pm. Please plan to be there to wish Bev a
happy retirement and to thank her for her commitment and dedication to St.
Dominic Parish. I trust that Bev’s retirement years will be restful, but
fruitful as well, as she continues to volunteer in some aspects of parish life.
The staff and parishioners of St. Dominic wish you, Bev, every blessing and
good health in your retirement!
Sincerely,
Fr. Phil
