The Lenten Mission for 2010 “A God For All Seasons” will be broadcast on VISIONTV ON Monday and Tuesday evenings, March 29th and 30th, at 9:00 pm and again at 11:00 pm. Speakers Sr. Joan Chittister and Fr. Pat Fitzpatrick
AT HOME
1. PRAYER: Say grace together at family meals; pray a decade of the Rosary – the Sorrowful Mysteries on Fridays or daily; meditate quietly on Scripture passages and the Stations of the Cross as Reflections; attend weekday Mass during Lent.
2. TIME OF PEACE: Think of the busyness in your household. What can you let go of so that you can catch your breath and enjoy one another more? How can you simplify your life to make space for the presence of Christ?
FASTING AND ALMSGIVING
3. FASTING: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Other times are recommended also – especially Fridays as we recall the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. Choose a particular day of fast with the intention of remembering our own poverty and the poverty of developing nations.
4.SHARELIFE: “Together, we can work Wonders…” – The theme of the 2010 ShareLife campaign reflects the power the Catholic Community has to make a meaningful difference in society. Wonders happen daily at ShareLife agencies as troubled, needy and vulnerable people in our midst receive effective, compassionate care. This year, make a contribution to the ShareLife campaign to assist over 225,000 people in need. “It’s very appropriate that ShareLife should be emphasized during Lent, a time when we think of what’s most important in our lives. Action in the service of others is at the very heart of it, and that’s the point of ShareLife; “ it’s really to Share Life with others.” – Most Rev. Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto. ShareLife Sunday is March 21st. Other Sharelife collections will take place on April 25th and May 31st, 2010.
5.SELF DENIAL: Acts of self-denial during Lent: i.e. abstain from your foods, alcohol, cigarettes; be prudent in watching TV; pick programs that heighten the value of life; pull the plug on TV for one day every week.
CONCERN FOR ONE ANOTHER
6.HELP someone without them knowing that you are doing it.
7.CLOTHING – Go through your closets and give away clothes that are still in good condition. If possible take these clothes to the St. Vincent de Paul Store at 265 Lakeshore Rd. E. (9-278-0437).
8. OUTREACH TO THE POOR AND HOMELESS - Help to restock our food pantry. There will be a food pantry collection on March 6/7. See parish bulletin for details. Donate personal care items for distribution to homeless shelters. On the weekend of March 13/14 there will be baskets at the entrances to the church to receive. Items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, tooth paste and shaving supplies in small sizes are especially welcome. Warm socks and underwear are also needed. You could also volunteer to assist at the Good Shepherd Refuge in Toronto. For information contact Bev Carpenter at the parish office.
